During my yearly mentoring and photography sessions in California, I was able to shoot with some amazing and beautiful clients.
We did some shooting on the San Francisco Bay; feeling the salty sea air while making beautiful memories.
We also shot in Ripon, a hidden gem in the center of California surrounded by wineries and wonderful people.
I am so excited to share these images because it shows the wonder and awe of being young. These pieces show my subjects not only coinciding with wild animals, but they also show the majesty of nature and a peace between human and nature.
I cannot wait to go back to California and capture even more beauty in this world. Here are the images of my lovely clients:

Around 12hrs ago I had the pleasure to meet Ashley and Aaron!, we have been preparing for this photo session for around a month or so. Talking about the costumes, the wigs, the Beastie! aka the long yellow wig!. The day finally arrived!.
We had so much fun during this session, for Minnesota we were pleased with a sunny and not so chilly fall day. We recreated a couple of memorable moments from the movie. Who could forget Pascal, Rapunzels best friend and side kick!
Ashley and Aaron love Cosplay and they actually met during a convention where they were both in costumes!, since then they have been inseparable and are always looking for new characters to portray.
Ashely handmade both costumes used during this photo session, it took her months to finish them and they have wore them numerous amount of times to different conventions.
Ashley and Aaron just went to World Disney World this month and they cannot wait to go back to celebrated their wedding anniversary! They remind me so much of my husband and I, we love all things Disney and we try to go every year during our Anniversary to Disneyland!. I am so happy to have met them and do their photo session.
Happy Anniversary Ashley and Aaron and wishing you many more years together surrounded by love, friends and awesome costumes and cosplay!

Introducing Ozzy The Kitty! Our Newest Family Member!
I am a Fine Art and Portrait photographer serving the Minnetonka, Plymouth, Wayzata and Twin Cities area.
Here is a little peek of our newest cute bundle of furry joy addition to our family!
Little Ozzy was a dream to photograph, he loves to cuddle and be bundled up, which was a pleasant surprise, he even fell asleep midway throughout his newborn shoot and purr the shoot away. We adopted Ozzy around a month ago and this session was done a couple of days after.
We believe he was only 4 to 5 weeks rather than 8 weeks like we were told when we adopted him, he is a beautiful orange tabby and loves to chase after his stuffy mouse and bouncy balls. Our three kiddos are def keeping him busy and he loves to chill right in front of my light setup in the studio.
Ozzy's newborn session was captured in my studio in Wayzata, MN. For booking information and availability, please Fill out the contact form below.

To better understand color cast and how to fix it we need to go back to the color wheel basics. Without going into too much detail and fancy rgb formulas, all digital cameras use some type of RGB formula to define the colors they capture to form an image. RGB simply explained means that when adding the exact same parts of red, green and blue will produce white and the absence of colors produces black.
Warm Colors: Magenta - Red - Yellow
Cool Colors: Blue - Cyan - Green
In Photography Warm Colors are Pair with their counterpart Warm Colors, meaning Blue pairs up with Yellow. Magenta with Green and Red with Cyan. So when you remove Blue from your image you are adding Yellow and when you add Red you removing Cyan and when you add equal parts of each counterpart you have neutral.
Warm colors will always neutralize cool colors and the key to learn how to color correct your images is to learn which color neutralizes the other. For example if you have an image where you have a green color cast due to your subject being sitting on the grass, you want to color correct that image by adding magenta thus removing green.
Here are a couple of examples on different ways to fix Color Cast.
In this image there was a green color cast due to all the greenery, by adding a Magenta Photo Filter I have removed the overall green cast. Before (top image), After (bottom image),
In this image my subject was too red due to the blanket it was laying on, by adding a Cyan filter I fix the color cast. Before (bottom image), After (top image).
Color Cast can be fix using different techniques in Photoshop, you can use Photo filters like I did above, you can make adjustment layers and fix the color cast by adjusting each rgb color and they are many other ways.
The reality is that color balance in photos comes to personal preference, some photographers like more pastel colors while others prefers rich colors it also depends on the type of photography for example landscape and portrait photography where color balance might change to achieve a certain look or feel.
I love this family, they are so cute together, you can feel the love for each other and love how they play with their sweet little one. This session took place in this beautiful wooded area in Ripon, CA. I love this location, is like an enchanted forest out of a children's story book. Tall grass, Old thick wood trees and different type of trails and paths making this a little hideaway gem in this beautiful town known by their almond orchards in the heart of California's wine country.
I had so much fun during this session, we played peek-a-boo, we made silly faces, we played with bubbles and ran around this beautiful and enchanted forest. What I love the most is seeing my clients grow and captured their most important moments throughout the years, can't wait to see them again later this year.

10 perfect little fingers and 10 perfect little toes!. I had the awesome pleasure to work with such a beautiful little one, she was just adorable and so sleepy and so easy to work with. Here is a little sneak peek on what you can expect when you book a session with me :).
Isn't she adorable?. I love the little pants, hat and layering blanket mom picked out from our newborn prop selection. During every newborn session parents can pick out their desired props they would like me to use, I also guide them through the selection and help them pick the color palette.
I pay close attention to the safety of all our newborn little ones. Prior to the session everything is sanitized, all props are freshly washed with organic detergent free of dyes and harsh chemicals and I take a shower right before each session and do not use any lotions, perfumes or wear any jewelry during the session to avoid our beautiful delicate clients to have any allergic reactions to new products or accessories.
I make sure all poses are done safely and no pose is done before thoroughly learning how to achieve the pose without any problems to make sure the safety of our little clients. I also have all the tools necessary to make this poses possible from the right layering blankets, to posing pillows to an assistant when needed.
During the pre-session consultation I talked to all my clients to start building the session according to all the wishes and need of each family like matching the nursery color palette to the props being used during the session. During the session the parents can relax on the studio while the session takes place, I have yummy snacks and drinks, a comfy couch as well as complimentary wifi.
I hope you enjoyed this beautiful images as much as I enjoy creating them, looking forward to my next newborn session and I hope is yours :).
Focus on the learning and not on the gear when starting out!.
A lot of people ask me what camera they should buy when starting out in their photography journey, I am talking about those that haven't had a dslr before. I am a canon girl and I highly suggest to start out with a crop sensor camera. They are affordable and with a good lens they can go the distance!.
The image above was taken with a Canon T2i and canon f/1.8 lens, when I was just starting out in my photography journey. The gear does help but what helps the most is learning how to utilize every piece of gear you have. You can achieve great images with just one lens and one camera. You don't need tons of lenses, accessories and spend a lot of money when starting out. You just need a camera, crop sensor or not, a good lens, a lot of practice, research and the will to learn how to shoot in manual mode.
So I asked fellow photographer friends to share their images taken with their crop sensor cameras and how far along in their photography journey they were when they took the images below. Showing how beautiful and well crafted images can be using a crop sensor camera.

When you feel comfortable enough with one lens and camera is when you should start looking at adding one extra or accessory at a time to avoid becoming overwhelmed. When you buy multiple accessories and lenses at a time you will not be able to take enough time with each one to truly learn how to use each accesories at it's best. Due to having to share your time between different lenses or accessories like flashes, etc.

Starting out with a crop sensor camera is not only smart but you can save hundreds that you can use to further your photography learning by having more money to spend on photography books, classes or mentoring with a local photographer. You can get a good used starter canon dslr camera body and great lens for as low as $300! New would be around $499 for the T2i with the brand new 50 f/1.8 lens. If you get the T2i bundle with the kit 18-55mm kit lens it would be $599 on Amazon. You could save up to $299 dollars buying used and $199 new. You will not only save on a great camera and lens but you will get a lens that you will be able to use for years. Rather than a lens that you will use during the first few months of the photography learning curve.

When I first started I was told my camera manual was one of the best resources, I was a bit skeptical!. After all, who reads the manuals?. You normally play it by ear or just search the trusty google to answer all your questions. But the reality is that your camera manual not only teaches you about all your camera functions but also teaches about photography as well. It will not be an in-depth photography manual but it does teach the essentials on how to start taking images the right way and puts you on the right track.

As you can see from the above images kindly provided by fellow photographers, you can achieve beautifully crafted images with a crop sensor camera as long as you learn how to use your camera and lenses. The main focus should be how to properly learn the shooting basics, from reading your camera manual and having it at hand for any questions you might have. You should not only invest in your camera gear but also in good photography books, classes or mentoring session with local photographers.
Thank you to all the image contributors that shared their images and a tidbit of their photography journey: Sarah Brown, Jessica Insley Green, Judy Hurley, Kelsey Freeman, Michael Pohl & Emma Pardon.
Wishing you the best on your new photography adventure, and don’t forget to comment with your suggestions, thoughts and feedback.
